Across the usa tour: Artist Leisa Collins

Starting in Los Angeles on September 1, 2009, and culminating in Washington DC three months later, the Across the USA from the Eyes of an Artist tour, was an action-packed adventure for Leisa and her husband Bruce, which marked the re-emergence of Leisa into the art world as a full-time visual artist. As they traveled, Leisa painted the landscape and documented the architectural styles of homes and buildings with sketches and photos.

Their first stop was Mammoth Lakes California and then the Grand Canyon in Arizona, through Nevada and to the the Sierra Nevada Mountain Regions of Sequoia and Yosemite. They traveled north up the coast through the famous Redwood Forest (dubbed the world’s tallest cathedral) and onto Oregon. Boise, Idaho, and Yellowstone National Park followed (with its geysers, hot springs and fossil forest, this area has over half the thermal activity of whole planet!). Next was Iowa, Wyoming, the Badlands, South Dakota (an area renowned for its weird alien forms), and onto Nebraska, Illinois and Indiana with a stop in Michigan to see Bruce’s family. Heading northeast through Ohio and Pennsylvania they stopped and marveled at Niagara Falls before moving onto New Jersey, New York City and finally Washington DC.

Throughout the tour Leisa raised awareness of the importance of art education for children, including a painting lesson with young artists in front of the Capital Building in Sacramento.
